  • ABSTRACT

  • The social standing of any society is determined by the social status of women. And proper development of a society depends on the participation of both men and women in various fields. But women participation is not so encouraging in comparison to men especially in the field of politics. Though our constitution advocates equal political rights to both men and women, but representation of women in Parliament and State Legislature is not up to the mark. As in other region of India the status of women of Assam has not been different. Percentage of women in the government and their political participation is very less. However to bring them forward education plays a vital role. This paper is an attempt to discuss the participation of women in the politics with special reference to Assam.
