Attitudes of In-Service Teachers about the Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTS): A Pilot Study

  • The researcher in this study attempts to examine the teachers’ attitude toward ICT use in the teaching-learning process. The descriptivesurvey method was used in the present study. An attitude scale for secondary school teachers constructed and standardized by Dilli, Raj Newa (2007) was adopted by the researcher for the study. The final draft of the scale comprised 31 items. Among these 31 items, 26 items are positive, and 5 items are negative. The reliability of the scale was found to be 0.67. So, the scale maybe considered reliable. Face validity and the content validity of the scalewere ensured by Dilli, Raj Newa through consultation with experts from Punjab University and Tribhuvan University from the first draft till the last draft ofthe scale. In the present study, a purposive sampling technique was used to select the secondary schools of Dibrugarh town and an incidental sampling technique was used to select the teachers teaching in those secondary schoolsin Dibrugarh town. A total of 7 schools were selected for the present study and out of these 7 schools, 113 teachers were selected for the study. The findings of the present study revealed a significant difference between teachers working in urban and rural areas as far as their attitudes toward ICT use in the teaching-learning process are concerned. Moreover, caste- wise differences were also found among school teachers concerning their attitudes toward ICT use inthe teaching-learning process. Some necessary suggestions were also given for enhancing teachers’ attitudes toward ICT use in the teaching-learning process.
