A Study on Educational Aspirations of Female Tea Tribe Community Living in Khanikar Gaon, Dibrugarh, Assam

  • Educational aspiration is an important variable in predicting academic achievement and reaching a certain career goal. Educational aspirations are the educational goals, predetermined strategies, detailed scheme of actions which an individual sets in advance to reach the desired path. Setting educational aspirations are very important as these aspirations are the foundations for physical, mental, moral, social and emotional development of an individual. However, such aspirations are often thwarted by socio-economic challenges in an individual’s life. Tea Tribe in Assam is one such community where the youth population face myriad challenges in fulfilling their educational aspirations. The researchers attempted to study the educational aspiration of female tea tribe community living in Khanikar Gaon, Dibrugarh, Assam. The population of the present study consisted of Female Tea Tribe villagers living in Khanikar Gaon, Khanikar who are also working in Khanikar Tea Estate, Dibrugarh, Assam. From the population of the present study, a total of 100 female Tea Tribe villagers working in Khanikar Tea Estate and living in Khanikar area, Dibrugarh were selected as samples of the present study. Incidental Sampling Technique was used to select the sample of the present study. A Self- Made Interview Schedule was used in the present study for collecting the necessary information from the respondents. After collecting, recording and analysing the information, it was found that most of the female respondents in the Tea Tribe community had low educational aspirations.Moreover, the researchers further suggested some important educational strategies to weaken their low educational aspirations and to strengthen their educational aspirations in a positive direction.
